4 During the late 1800s, an overproduction of farm crops in the U. S
During the late 1800s, an overproduction of farm crops in the U.S. was causing their prices to fall.

5 To help solve this problem, farmers wanted the U. S
To help solve this problem, farmers wanted the U.S. government to increase the money supply.

6 Farmers supported free and unlimited coinage of silver (“free silver”) because they believed it would result in higher prices for farm crops.

7 Populist Party Convention (1890)
The Populist Party was a political party in the U.S. that proposed reforms for farmers (such as “free silver”), which caused its rise in popularity by the 1890s. Populist Party Convention (1890)

8 The Populist Party also proposed other economic and political reforms, such as the graduated income tax or the direct election of senators.
