3 IDENTIFIED NEED Out of all of the youth of Kentucky in 2010, ages 10-17, 37% were obese or overweight. (Wrona, Ronald, nd). Childhood obesity automatically predisposes children to many health problems (Department of Health and Human Services, 2013).

6 PROJECT DESCRIPTION We plan on having a field day at Panther Creek Park to raise awareness about childhood obesity We want to have different games and activities like: Soccer Relay Races Volleyball Basketball

7 Objectives Have a field day for 200 children
Have 100 children sign a pledge saying that they will try to live heathier lives.

8 TARGET AUDIENCE AND PARTNERS
We want to target children in elementary school in the 4th-6th grade. We are partnering with the Boys and Girl’s Club to donate any money made to them and for them to provide supplies for our activities.

9 HOW IT HELPS Pledges, like the one we will ask children sign, are proven to be more effective when signed at a younger age (Schemo, 2001). By raising awareness to decrease childhood obesity we would in turn be decreasing their chances of being obese adults (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Healthy eating and physical activity decrease the risk of childhood obesity (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ).

10 TIMELINE and RESPONSIBILITIES
March- Visit schools to spread the word Planning April- Set up the event Gather supplies Clean up after event The students in the LSA would be responsible for helping with set-up, visiting the schools, running the activities at the event, and helping clean up the event

11 OBSTACLES & SOLUTIONS Not enough kids show up Weather issues
The cap of 200 children is gone over We can visit schools and capture an audience for at least minimum attendance We can reschedule the event or have it indoors We have sign up sheets with if they would like to attend and if they would like to purchase a T-shirt on them.

12 FUNDING We are requesting $350.
We want to sell T-shirts at $8 each, for a profit of about $5 per shirt. We are being funded by the Women’s Guild

13 CONCLUSION We plan on having a field day at Panther Creek Park to raise awareness about childhood obesity GOAL: Decrease childhood obesity FUNDING REQUESTED: $350
