Orientation Fall 2011 Denise Coffey MSN, RN Coordinator NRS 220

2 Welcome to NRS 220! Concepts covered will include alterations in cellular regulation and cellular metabolism. Course material (power point, college lab manual, course outline) will be posted on the nursing website I will communicate with you via mercer- , please be sure to check your frequently.

3 Medical Clearance Forms
All medical clearance forms should be turned into the nursing office/Stephanie Horner by Friday August 26th. There is an updated flu shot which will be available September/October time frame. If you are due for the flu shot, you are required to receive the updated formulation and supply documentation of this to Stephanie Horner by November 1st.

4 Medical Clearance Forms
This is your responsibility, if required documentation is not turned in dismissal from the nursing program may occur. Please show your professionalism and have required documentation into Stephanie Horner by the required date.

5 Course Outline/Communication
Course outline: posted on the nursing website please be sure to familiarize yourself with the course outline. If you have any questions or concerns please be sure to stay in touch with me via: Mercer Phone: or Posted office hours MS 145

6 Lecture/College Lab Lecture will be on Tuesdays 9am-12pm in MS 215. We will be utilizing different learning methods, so please be sure to have completed the required reading so you can participate and bring your i-clickers to lecture. As stated in the course outline quizzes will be given weeks 1,2, 4 and 5. Please be punctual to lecture as they will be given the first 10 minutes of lecture. The college lab manual will be available on the nursing web site, please familiarize yourself with weekly objectives. Math will also be a part of every college lab.

7 Testing Quizzes will be given weeks 1,2,4 and 5. The lowest quiz score will be dropped. The midterm will be administered at the beginning of week 3 lecture and the final will scheduled after week 5 lecture (date to be announced).

8 Testing A HESI medical surgical exam will be given after week 15 lecture. I will communicate the specific date in week 1 lecture. Please make note of this on your calendar. There is no grade assigned to this exam. This is a mandatory course requirement.

9 Clinical Lab Please be in uniform and meet your clinical instructor in the lobby of Hamilton at 8am on your assigned clinical day. Punctuality and professionalism as always are very important. Orientation and computer training will take place the first day of clinical. Please see the course outline for additional information/ objectives/ expectations.

10 Project We will be working on an evidence-based- practice project. I will provide you with information on requirements of the article. We will be so up to date regarding recent findings in alterations in cellular regulation & metabolism! Paper guidelines are in the course outline.
