1 Keystone Review 1 About the test.

2 About the Test 2 modules comprised of both multiple choice and constructed- response. (it’s a 2 part test) Each module is worth 30 points for a total of 60 points There are different versions of the test, some are easier and some are harder. Therefore they weight the test. You can score between You must get a 1500 to score “proficient” (passing).

3 Module 1 – Operations/Linear Equations and Inequalities
Number of Questions Weight Total Value Multiple Choice 18 x1 Multiple Choice Field Test 5 x0 Constructed Response 3 x4 12 Constructed Response Field Test 1

4 Module 2 – Linear Functions/Data Organization
Number of Questions Weight Total Value Multiple Choice 18 x1 Multiple Choice Field Test 5 x0 Constructed Response 3 x4 12 Constructed Response Field Test 1

5 Field Test Questions Field test questions do not count towards your score. You don’t know which ones they are. Try every question. They are meant to help design future versions of the test.

6 Multiple Choice There is no penalty for getting a multiple choice question wrong. If you can’t get it – guess!

7 Constructed Response Do exactly as the problem asks.
These are open ended problems that contain multiple parts and ask you to do things like explain, describe, demonstrate, compare, etc. Follow the directions carefully. If you do your math correct but do not explain it, you will not receive full credit. Explain your work thoroughly. Explain it as if you are explaining it to one of your peers, instead of a math teacher. That way you will not skip over any details. If you are asked to explain your work be clear and thorough – not brief. You can earn partial credit. If you are stuck on part a, but you can do parts b through d, do them. You will still earn some points.

8 No Time Limit Each module is meant to take a few hours.
There is no time limit. If you need extra time, ask for it.

9 Calculator Use a calculator you are comfortable with.
A scientific calculator is best. If you borrow a complex calculator from someone, you might struggle on how to use it during the test – that’s no good!

10 Tips Stuck on a problem? Save it for later. That’s a good use of your extra time! When you don’t know – guess! Use the provided formula sheet. It is very useful for many of the problems.

11 Tips continued. Get a good night’s rest. Eat breakfast. Relax.
