2 Fact and Opinion A fact is a true statement that can be proven.
An opinion is something that you think about a subject. The Titanic was small compared to all ships. OPINION The Titanic sunk at the cause of an iceberg. FACT

3 FACTS Some examples from “Exploring the Titanic” that are facts are:
“At noon on Wednesday, April 10, the Titanic cast off”. “Captain Smith was on duty in the bridge, so Bride handed the message to him. These are not facts: The Titanic was the best boat ever made. The Titanic was a fast ship to build.

4 Opinion The Titanic was the greatest ship in the world.
The Titanic was very unsinkable. This ship was an easy ship to build. This ship had a horrible captain. The crew was not thinking straight.

5 Trivia Which statements are facts? Which are opinions?
1. Everyone who died was a person. FACT 2. The Titanic was a nice ship. OPINION 3. The Titanic was suppose to sail to New York but did not make it. FACT
