1 Pinch Pots Pinching is one of the most basic forms of working with clay. In this lesson, you will be Using pinching to create a Series of pinch pots that Show texture on the surface.

2 The Pinch Pot that You create does not Have to be perfectly Even. There can be Differences in the Sides, and the top. This gives your vessel A look like it is Natural (or organic)

3 Every Vessel that You create should have 3 basic parts. The lip (the top opening of The vessel) The Body (The main/middle Part of the vessel) The Foot (Where the vessel Rests on the bottom)

4 You can create areas of your vessel that are raised up from the body.
This will help to create patterns and interest along the surface of your Work.

5 When we glaze your pinch pot, we
Will be conducting a rub where the Textures will be colored black, and The outer surface of the vessel Will remain white. IMPORTANT! Make sure you Press your textures in deep enough That the glaze will stick!

6 Hopi Burnished Pinch Pots

7 In this lesson, you will Be using a process call Burnishing to create a Smooth texture on your Pinch pot. Burnishing is the process Of smoothing out the Surface of your clay before It has been bisque fired by Rubbing a smooth object Over the surface multiple Times.

That the Hopi Indian Tribe has used for Hundreds of years to create A shiny smooth surface Without the use of glazes.

9 The other element that The Hopi’s use in their Ceramics work is the use Form. Hopi Ceramics is traditionally As perfect in shape as possible. The vessel will be perfectly balanced All the way around (including the Lip, body and foot of the vessel).
