When determining the role and scope of responsibilities of your Legal Operations Team, there are several considerations to make:
Size of the Law Department: The Legal Operations Team should be sized and scoped to match the Law Department they support. Instead of looking solely at the number of Legal Operations resources, consider the ratio of Legal Operations team members to the number of Law Department team members.
Scope of the Law Department: The Legal Operations Team should focus their responsibilities to reflect the Law Department they support. Law Departments often include non-legal functions, such as Security, Compliance, or Environmental Impact, and the Legal Operations Team should consider those non-legal functions when determining their support focus. For example, if the Law Department includes the Compliance function, the Operations Team should consider focusing on Compliance Operations.
