All diners arrive at a specified time, usually “1800 for 1830" or something similar. There is no such thing as being fashionably late. In this instance diners are expected to arrive at 1800, arriving late is in very poor taste and is not to be done. The “cocktail” period before the dinner is in place for diners to have a sociable drink before the dinner and to introduce themself to the Guest of Honour. Diners arrive and proceed to an ante room. This is simply a gathering area.

Fifteen minutes before dinner guests will be advised that they have fifteen minutes to finish their drinks, go to the washroom, fix their tie, etc. They then proceed to the dining room door and wait for the head table to be piped in. The guests of the head table head the procession and stand behind their chair.

The PMC will now introduce the head table starting from the far end

  The PMC now calls for the youngest member of the cadet corps to exchange Ranks with the Commanding officer. To represent that the cadets are served by the officers.

Officers will then take their place at the serving tables

Once all have their plate in front of them they stand behind their chair and wait. The PMC now asks for grace to be said “Padre, would you offer the blessing” A simple blessing is given such as “For what we are about to receive, we thank God”, diners will reply “Amen”. Now all diners take their seat and start eating.

At the conclusion of the meal, all china, silverware, placemats, flowers, and glasses, with the exception of the port glass, will be removed from the table and brought over to the bar and cleaned and placed in to the dish rack. Cadets will then take their seats

The Commanding Officer will have previously selected senior cadets or members of the Regimental Association to offer toasts.   The person making the toast will rise and propose a toast, at which point the rest of us will pick up our port glass, stand to attention, raise our glass, respond to the toast, sip our port, and sit down again.

The Vice stands and replies, “La Reine du Canada”.   All diners pick up glasses and respond “The Queen”. “God Save the Queen will be played”

Next, the toast to the Regiment by a Regimental Association member present. No specific toast is prepared, the member is free to make this toast up. Diners stand and reply “To the Regiment / 2 Military Police Regiment” Regimental March will be played “Thunderbird”

Next, the Commanding Officer shall rise, explain the table of the Fallen Comrade and offer the toast to the Fallen Comrades. “Let us give thanks for the many blessings we have received. Let us also remember the great price that has been paid for that freedom too many times We knew them, we'll remember them, and they will not be forgotten. To our fallen comrades”, diners reply “to our fallen comrades”

In the mess, you NEVER "clink" your glasses with those around you when making a toast! (You may now go to the bathroom if required)

It is not considered polite to race for the exit as soon as the formalities are over, but rather chat for a few minutes or speak to our guests before departing. BEFORE LEAVING ONE SHOULD SAY GOODNIGHT TO THE SENIOR OFFICER PRESENT AND TO THE PMC.
