Ghengis Khan (Chinggis Khan) Aka Temujin – Unified Mongol tribes
1265 – Khubilai Khan, grandson of Ghengis, declared himself ruler of the Mongols, upset other descendants, and the Empire split into 4 “Khanates” (Empires):
Golden Horde – Russia
The GREAT Khan– Aka the Yuan - China
Il-Khan – Persia into the Middle East
Jagadai Khanate – Central Asia
PAX MONGOLICA! Made trade along the Silk Road better than ever, but also allowed for the transmission of diseases at a much faster rate (Black Death into Europe thanks to them, 1347). Also allowed tech to diffuse from China into Europe (Gunpowder, Coal mining, Cannon, Movable type)

7. Ming
Zheng He – Zheng He, Zheng He! – Chinese Muslim, Led massive numbers of expeditions into the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia, resulting in a massive influx of tributary states, making the Ming vastly wealthy. They had to rely on Indian Ocean trade more than ever. The ruler before Yongle(who Zheng He worked for) closed off China as a sign of hatred for the Mongols. Zheng He (who worked under Yongle) is a symbol of China re-opening once again to the rest of the world

8. Ming

During the Ming, Silver replaced paper currency. As the Ming begin to isolate themselves after the end of Yongle’s reign, the Ming would start obsessively hoarding silver, and closed themselves off to foreign innovation, culture, and nearly all imports.
