1 mHS READING CHALLENGE 

2 What’s it all about? A challenge that is meant to encourage reading independently for fun & enjoyment Opportunity for you to CHOOSE what you want to read…. nothing is off limits (age- appropriate of course!)

3 How do I join? All you have to do is….
Read a book of your own choosing (must be age appropriate!) Complete an assessment on the book you read Have the potential to earn 2 points on your English average for the fourth marking period! Receive “Reading Challenge Tickets” to win great prizes

4 How do I prove I read the book?
Must complete one of the following assessments: Option Assessment Procedure #1 Accelerated Reader Test- must score 65 or above Schedule the test on your own time in the library, Print two grade reports and submit one to library (for contest)      and one to your English teacher (for points on your average)  Check AR Bookfinder to view if the book has a test  #2 Book Chat with your English teacher or Mrs. O’Toole (librarian) You must schedule a "Book Chat" ahead with the teacher- Do not wait until the last minute! Obtain a “Reading Challenge Ticket” from the your teacher & submit it to the library (for contest entry) #3 Book Review Form Obtain the form in the library Complete all questions, providing details from the book Submit the form to your English teacher for approval (points on average) obtain a “Reading Challenge Ticket" from your teacher and bring to library (for contest entry)

5 Tickets…

6 Go the extra mile… If you read more than one book and complete an assessment for each by the end of the year, you will be placed in the grand prize drawing for a Kindle Fire! (two possible winners!) Drawing will take place Friday June 2nd, all assessments must be completed by Wednesday May 31st!!

7 Bonus Tickets… Earn one additional ticket to each drawing (per marking period), if you borrow your books from the MHS library  Earn additional tickets to each drawing by being “caught reading” during your study halls 

8 What can I win? Most Importantly… Two points on your English average!

9 Where do I find more info & BOOK REVIEW ONLINE forms?
MHS Library website has all the requirements and forms

10 For your information… You are not required to borrow a book from the MHS Library, although we’d like you to… Books can be electronic, you can purchase your own, or you can borrow from Lee-Whedon Public Library’s collection, etc.  As long as you can prove you read it with an assessment! If you have recently read a book you may use it for the challenge (not anything required for class however)

11 Today’s agenda… Take a flyer~ you can get 20% off at The Book Shoppe just by showing it! Take a minute to look around at all the various genres/categories- other side Complete the “Reading Challenge Scoresheet”- You will be graded on this! Check out a book for break 
