People looked to northern Italian state of Piedmont to lead the fight for unification King of Piedmont (Camillo di Cavour) made an alliance with French emperor (Louis-Napoleon)

7 Giuseppe Garibaldi Raised an army of 1,000 volunteers
Revolts broke out in Sicily and took control of the Island Marched to Naples and took it over
