This program also serves section members with K-12 age students, as well as members who wish to serve as tournament officials or volunteers to build up their resume experience. IEEE student section members also serve as volunteers supporting these events. Mid-Hudson IEEE has previously sponsored this program for the past 10 years, during which time the program has grown from about 30 students in one city to over 1,100 students across the entire Hudson Valley (from Albany to Westchester). FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a not-for-profit public charity, established in 1989 by Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway human transporter. 12/3/2018 $375.00 5 NJ Coast Katherine Grace August ICCDD - Reinventing Member/Engineering Opportunities w Education Experiences and Community Need Engage Members from many Societies and Affinity Groups crossing domains to create a forward looking interdisciplinary Community Focused project focused on including user groups with hearing loss, student engineers, and those with experience. In addition to Section Members, the project incorporates Stevens Institute of Technology, Gallaudet University, experts in Robotics, Biomedical Engineers, and others from fields of emerging import. Participants will create an online presence for the project, meet with students and users, plan a hackathon, create a library of resources, repository of data, collaborate to program a robot, and engage in new engineering and business models and techniques such as open source code, building apps, machine learning, big data, cloud learning, engaging user groups, sharing results. 12/1/2018 $1,750.00 6 Binghamton Vince Socci Disc Golf Challenge and Tech Talk Disc Golf is a fast-growing sport in the US. Many colleges have intramural teams. Professionals of all ages are joining the sport. The Binghamton Section is planning a technical/social event to learn about the sport (technical talk on flight dynamics, new player instructional clinic), play the sport (coached rounds of play), and socialize (networking picnic). Our intent is to open it to the public and make this a membership development event. 8/4/2018 $1,702.50 $700.00 7 approved funds as of 7/31/18 $4,075.00
