1. Year 9 History: Contextual Homework
Each week, you will be given homework that requires you to use different critical thinking skills that are often used when studying History. These assignments will usually relate closely to the topic we are studying in lesson. There are six thinking skills:

So far, you’ve studied the attitudes of people living in Canada during WWII.
Conscription was a real controversial issue in Canada. It meant that men had to go to Europe to fight in the war. It was put in place to support Britain in the war effort.

In our topic about Total War, we learned that Canada supported Britain in the war effort.
A historical source is anything that contains information or images about the past.
These include books, videos, diaries, maps, pictures, tools, artefacts and much more.

In our topic about Total War, you could employ the historical significance thinking skill in the following way.
Adolf Hitler is historically significant because his actions were a cause of World War II. This is important because World War II caused many deaths, and impacted the lives of many people worldwide.

In our topic about Total War, we learned that Australia was very involved in the War in the Pacific.
In World War II, Australia’s involvement started off as help in the air. The RAAF fought in many air battles in Europe, but few troops were actually sent into action in land until 1941.

Your answer must explain how a specific country was impacted by Total War and explain if those changes were good or bad.
Remember, we have studied the role of Canada, Australia, South Africa, and India.
All of these countries are part of the British Commonwealth.

Governments really tried to control the attitudes and morale of citizens during wartime.
