1 Belief in the Holy Books.
To explore the Holy Books of Allah. To analyse the contribution to Islam. Do Now: which Holy books might be important to Muslims and why?

Activation 1: Watch the video clip. Take notes on the history of the Holy Books. Think, Pair, Share: Why cant humanity guide themselves? We are full of weakness. We have limited knowledge of past and future. Only Allah is above these shortcomings. He can give up the guidance which is suitable for all time and places. In his Omni benevolence he wants to give us the best opportunity to succeed in this life

3 Who was the first Prophet to receive the word of God?
Read the pack. Who was the first Prophet to receive the word of God? Why did God send the Quran? What is the significance of ‘recite’? What is the difference between compilation of the Bible and the Quran? What does Andrew Rippen say? How should Muslims treat the Quran? What is the significance of Arabic? Why do scholars believe that the Quran is the word of God? What fundamental beliefs about God does the Quran contain? Answer the questions in full sentences in your book.

4 Shia: Shia Muslims do not believe in the eternal Quran.
They believe that everything in the Quran has a hidden meaning which needs to be interpreted by religious leaders. Some Shias believe that the Quran is not final and can be added too by the Imams. They believe it was altered by Sunnis so that references to the Twelve Imams were missed out.

5 Assess the importance of Muslim beliefs about the Holy Books. (9 Marks).
Include: Why the Quran is better than the others but why the others are important. Why Muslims believe the Quran to be the unchanged word of God. How this would impact Muslim living. The opinion of a Scholar. How Shia are different.
