13. Mental mapping
A mental map is an individual’s internalised representation of aspects of the earth’s surface (
Mental maps reflect what a person knows about a place, in terms of characteristics, distances and scale
Mental maps tend to be quite subjective and reflect experiences, observations and interests

14. Developing mental maps
Individually draw a mental map of the path from the post office to the classroom
Remember to include physical and human features (landmarks), scale and if possible direction
Go for a walk to follow your map, are there any significant features you have left out? Add these now
Compare your map with other in the classroom, what differences or similarities can you see?
Compare your mental map with a digital map available on your phone
