Studied at the best music conservatory in Europe - in Leipzig, Germany Played the piano The piece that made Grieg famous was his one and only piano concerto. Considered a nationalistic composer

Peer Gynt Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen asked Grieg to write music for his play Peer Gynt. In the story of Peer Gynt, Gynt makes off with a bride and then ditches her. Later he meets a woman who is green, only to find out she’s the daughter of the Troll King. Gynt is held captive by the King because he wants Gynt to become a troll. Gynt escapes. His escape is told in the song, “In the Hall of the Mountain King.” Later in the play Gynt meets a woman named Anitra, who dances for him.
