1 Newton’s Law Doodle NOtes

2 1st Law of Motion An object remains at rest or continues to move at a constant velocity unless acted upon by an external net force In other word: An unbalanced force is needed to change the velocity of an object

3 2nd Law The acceleration of an object is proportional to the net force action upon it and inversely proportional to the object mass. In other words: Fnet=ma; a great force increase acceptation, a great mass decrease acceleration.

4 3rd Law When one body exerts a force on a second body the second exerts a force on the first that is equal in magnitude but opposite in direction. For every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction force.

5 The sum of all of the force acting on an object
Net Force The sum of all of the force acting on an object

6 Newton’s First Law: The Law of inertia
If the net external force on an object is zero the object’s velocity will remain unchanged.

7 True/False If an object is stationary, it must have no external forces acting on it There may be some external force but they would be balanced.

8 True/False If you throw a ball in space the ball will keep going in the same direction at the same speed There is no force to change the velocity

9 True/False While sitting in a moving bus you throw an apple up into the air. The apple will land back in your hand. The apple, you and the bus all have the same horizontal velocity with no force changing it

10 True/False A bus accelerates forward. If an apple were on the floor of the bus it would move forward. The apple would appear to move toward the back of the bus

11 Buckle UP!!! No seatbelts You keep moving until something exert a force to stop you. With seatbelt exerts a force stop you.

12 Fnet=ma Net=Sum of all forces Fnet = m(kg)a(m/s2) Newtons=(kg)(m/s2)

13 Newton’s Second Law Draw it!! Write it

14 Draw it!! Mass Newton’s Second Law
> a > f1 ---> a--> f > a > f ---> a--> f Mass Draw it!! Mass Mass Mass

15 Write it!! If the force increases so does the acceleration.
Newton’s Second Law If the force increases so does the acceleration. If the mass increases the acceleration decrease. Write it!!

16 Airplane Using the FBD and Newton’s 2nd Law to determine the acceleration of a 5600kg airplane.

17

18 Newton’s 3rd law For energy action force there exists an equal and opposite reaction force.

19 Newton’s Third Law Action: Earth pulls on the satellite
Reaction: The satellite pulls on the earth. *Earth does not accelerate as much due to its large mass

20 Use the Law of Force Pairs to explain how things acceleration
The car’s tires grip the road and push the road backwards. The reaction force move the car forward; the road pushes the car forward.

21 Hockey An 80-kg hockey player checks a 65-kg hockey player on frictionless ice. Draw the FBD for both hockey players.

22 The law of Force Pairs

23 When a bug hits a car’s windshield it splats because the force of the car on the bug is greater than the force of the bug hitting the car. True/False
