1. CHANGES FOR 2013-2014 Academic Decathlon

2. Essay Competition test changes for 2013–14 For the 2013–14 essay competition tests, students will continue to be given three prompts from which to choose. The essay prompts may now focus on any of the following subject areas: art, economics, language and literature, music, science, or social science. The prompts will be randomized so that there will be an even distribution of the subject areas between the local, regional, and state competition rounds.

3. Art Competition test changes for 2013–14 The art competition test for the 2013–14 decathlon season will include an accompanying PowerPoint slideshow for questions 1–10 that will be based upon a specific artwork image from the Academic Decathlon ® Art Reproductions Booklet. A CD with ten PowerPoint art slides will accompany each art competition test similar to how the music listening CD accompanies the first twelve music test questions. Each State Academic Decathlon ® organization will have the option to use this new format or an art competition test that will not use the PowerPoint file. Coaches can contact their State Director to find out which format will be used.
