2 Course Description Biology is the study of life. This unit looks at life on Earth and gives students an understanding of some of the major areas of biology, for example, cells and cell processes, cell reproduction, genetics and evolution. This course is designed as an introduction to some of the content of the VCE Biology curriculum.

3 Why Study this? Work Tasks Assessment tasks
Extensive practical work learning to use binocular microscopes and the correct preparation of microscope slides. Various worksheets. Research of topics eg. cellular structure and function and enzyme action and function. Practical reports on the following: plant and animal cells, enzymes, DNA extraction, evolutionary processes. Research report on genetic engineering. Topic tests Unit exam.

4 Subject pathway…. Year 10 Biology leads to VCE Biology which can then lead to tertiary studies in some of the following areas: Biological and agricultural sciences Sport sciences Environmental and ecological sciences Medicine Biotechnology
