8 Class Discussion Did you catch EVERYTHING in the picture the first time? The more we encounter something, the more we understand it. This is why when we read literature, we shouldn’t give up after a few stanzas or sentences. If you feel uncomfortable or confused, that is good. That is a sign that you are learning and growing in your knowledge.

9 Advanced State of Learning
Remember… Confusion = Advanced State of Learning

10 Let's practice our literary workshop skills...

11 Steps: 1) Read the poem on your own three or four times, noting any difficulties you encounter in trying to understand it. Annotate this text!! 2) In groups of 3, share your notes and your questions. Try to solve all the problems that bothered you. See if any new ones arise. You’ll share about the problems you and your group encountered and worked through during discussion. 3) Share any aspect of the poem that remains confusing or you disagree about. Did you solve them or not? (10 min)

12 Class Discussion Questions:
Do you still have questions? Notice that the lines are not confusing syntactically/grammatically. Are you comfortable with what you’re hearing? Can you elaborate? Does this make sense to the rest of you? Do you accept this reading? Is this a boy or a girl? Does gender make a difference in the interpretation of the poem? There is a lot of imagery within the poem. What is the author stating about the people/objects by using this imagery to describe them?

13 Time for you to write! This is your first assignment for English. You are going to create your own Where I’m From poem. You will present this poem on Friday Must include visuals Poster, colored paper, powerpoint, Imoive etc. Here is an example of mine….
