2 Lesson Objectives Recap on primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary sectors. Understand the “development pathway.” Describe variations in sectoral balance between countries.

3 Key Points All industries can be seen as a system of inputs, processes, outputs and feedback. Industries are likely to locate themselves near the inputs they require. They also need access to market, power supply, communications and labour. Primary industry involves the extraction or production of raw materials. Secondary industries process the products of primary industries and manufacture them into goods and products. The tertiary sector provides services, skills, goods and products from primary and secondary industries. The quaternary sector supplies information services, such as computing and Research and Development.
