Springs Ty/Tekiah/Kayla/Brooke

2 Ordinary wells and springs
Ordinary wells work with highly permeable sediment or rock below the water table. Pumping from the well forms a cone of depressions.

3 Ordinary springs Are usually found in rugged terrain where ground surface drops below the water table (436 earth science)

4 Artesian wells and springs
A artesian formation is a sloping layer of permeable rock that is sandwiched between two layers of impermeable rocks. An artesian well is a well which water flows freely without being pumped

5 Artesian springs When cracks occur in the caprock water from the aquifer flows through the cracks making an artesian spring. (437,Earth Science) Artesian springs are on sloping land to form a lake like feature.

6 Hot Springs -Groundwater is heated when it passes through rock that has been heated by magma. Any water that rises to the surface is called a hot spring. -Mud pots form when chemically weathered rock mixes with hot water.

7 Geysers Hot water that comes through vents through the surface is called a geyser.

8 Questions How does groundwater reach the Earth’s surface? Through wells and springs. What is the difference between artisan and ordinary wells? Artesian has sloping sides to form a river like pool.

9 3. What happens when you over pump a well?
It forms a cone of depression
