4 Why might we discuss an issue?
1) Because the causes are complex (e.g. poverty) 2) Because people don’t agree on the solutions 3) Because time is running out to find a solution 4) Because effects might be different for different people You have investigated ‘issues’ with your IRs and you will see them in the exam!

5 So which of these are issues?

It could have 1 source or more It could be picture, cartoons or script TIP Skim through the sources to get an idea of the topic area. Read for meaning and understanding, highlighting main points, perspectives Facts Opinions Values Judgements

7 Question 1 Will ask you to REFER to a particular SOURCE for each question within the QUESTION 1 section. Generally each question within this section is reading comprehension. BUT sometimes they might ask you to JUSTFY your answer thus you have to use information from the source that provides EVIDENCE to support the justification. Remember the diamond 9… How many people are affected? How big is the effect? Does it have social, economic, environmental consequences? How many knock on effects are there? Brainstorm the criteria you could use to decide how important a consequence is
