NRG Strategy Low Carbon Generation “Our strategy [is] to produce and deliver clean, zero-emissions products and services to America’s growing number of clean energy consumers” David Crane, October 2010 Ivanpah Solar Project Press Release NRG strategy is to “move clean energy forward” but delivering clean, zero-emission services to customers We believe this requires a mix of wholesale and retail facing skills Specifically, we see this strategy playing out in three areas: Low Carbo Generation, Smart Grid Service, and EV Ecosystems Smart Grid Services Electric Vehicle Ecosystems EVs are a key element of NRG’s clean energy strategy. 3

4 Electric Vehicles: Compelling Benefits…
… across multiple stakeholders 1. Consumer: > Exciting > Convenient > Sustainable > Affordable Auto industry plans align with federal objectives to put 1M EVs on U.S. roads by 2015 2. Country: > Energy security > Environmental Gain > Economic growth EVs hold strong, multi-faceted benefits to customer, country, and commercial companies 3. Company: > Economic growth > Brand differentiation > Business opportunities 4

5 eVgo: Addressing EV Adoption Barriers
Solutions Range Anxiety Upfront Cost Cost of Ownership Metropolitan-wide network of charging stations equipped with DC fast chargers Workplace charging programs that can augment home charging Upfront cost of equipment and install is amortized into monthly fee with tax benefits included Cost-effective options for placing primary charger at workplace or residential community Fixed monthly cost across the expected ownership period for hardware, install, network access and electricity NRG offers are deigned to address key ownership barriers.

9 Consumer Insights EV Driving Behavior
Before quick charger addition…. After quick charger addition…. October 2007 July 2008 After Quick Charger Located Batteries were more fully utilized Batteries were used less than 50% Pathway charging enables confidence to fully utilize EV range 9

10 Current Product Offerings
Complete Plan: 50% of customers Mobile Plan: 20% of customers Home Plan: 30% of customers 83% of EV customers intend to lease their vehicle 10 10

11 EV Purchase Behavior Insights
After seeing the an EV together with the eVgo program: 63% of respondents indicated they would definitely or probably consider an EV for their next auto 58% of respondents indicated that learning about eVgo increased their likelihood to purchase an EV 16% of respondents said they would not have considered an EV before learning about eVgo but now they will 42% of respondents indicated they were already considering an EV and learning about eVgo increases their likelihood to purchase an EV 69% of respondents indicated that if they purchased an EV they would definitely or probably purchase an eVgo charging plan The eVgo Complete plan raises consideration and purchase likelihood of an EV. 11

12 Business Offers: The “Other” Work Place Solution
Single Charger Install Access issues Policy issues Low visibility Low utilization Expensive upfront capital costs One parking spot with a charging station Sits visible and unused for some time Opportunity cost of lost parking Policy issues of employee benefits Potential imputed income issues No promotion or expansion plan Risk of parking space retaliation Single charger workplace install is a high-cost, high-risk solution that does not scale. 12

13 Business Offers: REV Work Place Destination Charging
READY READY Reserved REV Work Place Simple Scale-able Visible Company funds only the electric make-ready of the facility Employees see the available EV opportunity everyday Subscription comes with the benefit of non-prime, reserved spot Parking spaces available for all to use while adoption ramps-up Just in time deployment of charging infrastructure with subscriber sign-up Company does not own, install, maintain, or support the chargers Energy consumed by employee is rebated back to company electric bill Company is not funding the fueling of personal automobiles 13
