1 What is ArcGIS Online? It’s a free subscription web-based GIS for all UK schools supplied by ESRI UK Schools. No software needed but you will need to sign up and enter user agreements. 500 accounts available per school. Includes OS 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 mapping

2 What is ArcGIS Online? The main interface is a web map. There is a learning curve to be experienced for teachers and students. GIS skills need time to acquire. A huge wealth of secondary data is available and can be viewed as map layers. Fieldwork data can be collected and presented through mobile apps. Intuitive user-friendly maps can be created for younger students to view on tablets. Access to Desktop PCs or Macs required for the best experience.

4 ArcGIS Online Ready to use teaching resources with worksheets and links to live webmaps. Spend some time browsing the resources.

5 Deprivation mapping Use the search box in Teaching Resources to find and open this webmap. Search for deprivation.

8 Working with web maps Use the search box to investigate your area Click on each LSOA to view the data. Choropleth mapping in 10 decile classes with 10 being the least deprived and 1 being the most.

9 Working with web maps Sign in using your temporary login details to access OS mapping. Create some bookmarks to save your locations Access the contents to add labels

10 Working with web maps Use the Filter function to select data and investigate relationships.
