Mysterious death or disappearance of a child was “proof” of this. Others believed they were working for the devil and they could bring about: Droughts, Storms, Floods, Illness, Miscarriages, and Birth Defects In the 14th Century People believed Jews poisoned wells, causing the Bubonic Plague.
