3 1. Generalities FLAG´S MEANING: The flag is green, symbolic of Brazil´s forest. The flag has a large yellow diamond, symbolic Brazil´s gold, and in the center has a blue celestial globe with 27 stars, symbolic the states. 2 2.

8 2. Traditions CARNAVAL the traditional festival of decadence before Lent begins, has some of its biggest celebrations in Brazil, especially in Rio de Janeiro and Salvador. The Copacabana Palace Ball is the principal place of these parties.7 7.

10 2. Anothers traditions Brazil has numerous traditions, from sports to dance to religious rites. CAPOEIRA is a practices devised by African slaves. This art now resembles dancings as muchs as fighting. SAMBA music and dance comes from the Bantú who arrived in Brazil from Angola. This African musical import has evolved to produce Bossa Nova and other traditional forms of Brazilian music. 9 The SOCCER launches the sport to the level of a national obsession. 9.

Brazil has the greatest variety of animals of any country in the world. This country have a lot of mamal species, fish species, bird species and different types of insects. In the central part of Brazil live giant anacondas and caimans. 10 10.

Brazil was added to the map of the world during the great European explorations in the late 15th century led by Portugal and Spain. Portugal established its first colony in Brazil in Colonists created sugarcane plantations along the coast and sent diamonds and gold back to Europe. Soon, people from West Africa were brought to Brazil to work as slaves. 11 11.

In 1789, Brazilians tried to kick out their Portuguese rulers. The rebellion was soon put down, but it started a movement toward independence. By 1822, Brazil was a sovereign nation. Kings of Portuguese blood ruled until 1888, when military leaders and landowners expelled the king, and Brazil became a federal republic. 11 11.

16 5. Cuisine Brazilian cuisine is a combination of assorted flavors taken from the various cultures that constitute modern Brazil. The first Europeans to settle in Brazil were the Portuguese who brought with them centuries of cooking tradition. African were brought into the country to work as slaves in plantations. After other races influenced the Brazilian cuisine like German, Italian, Middle Eastern and Japanese. 12 12.

17 5. Cuisine Northern Brazilian food have native Indian influence, the favorite ingredients being tropical fruits, peanuts and fish. This is the favorite cuisine in the country. The popular Brazilian Cuisine are Feijoada (black bean soup), Acaraje (crispy of rice, beans, coconut and fruits), Moqueca Baiana (seafood contain shrimp, fish, garlic, onions, olive oil, peppers, cilantro and tomatoes). 13 13.
