6.  The typical northern food is pato no tucupi tacacá, caruru, vatapá and maniçoba; the Northeast is known for moqueca (having seafood and palm oil), and acarajé (the salted muffin made with white beans, onion and fried in oil palm (dendê) which is filled with dried shrimp, red pepper), manioc, diz, hominy, dumpling and Quibebe.

8.  The Brazilian flag was adopted on November 15, 1889.  The green symbolizes their fields and forest.  The yellow symbolizes their wealth in gold.  In the center floats a blue celestial globe with 27 white stars each one representing each state and federal districts.  The white band across the globe has the motto “Ordem E Progresso” in translation it means Order and Progress.

12.  The city of Rio de Janeiro proper was founded by the Portuguese on March 1, 1565 and was named São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, in honor of St. Sebastian, the saint who was the namesake and patron of the then Portuguese Monarch D.
