Champlain believed that Canada could be profitable.
In 1608, Champlain established a habitation called Quebec.
Champlain allied with a small band of First Nations against the Iroquois.

8. Trade Alliance
For the Small Band of First Nations People, the trade brought tools and weapons.
For Champlain and the French, the trade brought furs.
Both parties realized the importance of their relationship with each other.

9. They agreed not to trade any furs with English.
The tools by the French, made life easier for the First Nations People.

10. Military Alliance The Iroquois War began in 1609.
The French provided firearms to help win several battles.
Champlain also provided 300 men.

11. Huron Alliance Champlain realized the more trade alliances the better.
The Hurons were great fur traders.
Champlain was eager to form an alliance with the Hurons.
