What is the Gov saying: Westmoreland claims Vietcong is weakening. But, in Reality… 1968: North Vietnamese & Vietcong launch a major attack on South Vietnam called the… Tet Offensive (Jan. 30, 1968) New Year’s Eve, N.V Vietcong invades 30 S.V cities Vietcong lost, but looked really bad for the USA TURNING POINT

5 Part 4: Nixon Final Days of War (1968-1975)
1968 = Henry Kissinger: National Security Advisor for Nixon. Nixon & Kissinger = Vietnamization = plan to gradually withdraw American troops In 3 yrs = 500,000 troops to about 25,000 troops. 1972 Elections = Kissinger announces “Peace is at Hand” = people agree and re-elect Nixon.

6 1973 = Cease-Fire signed by both sides. USA starts to withdraw troops.
By…1974 = North Vietnam invades South Vietnam…again…and takes over Operation Frequent Wind: UN tires to rescue S.V civilians so N.V won’t kill them for being traitors. So today Vietnam is reunited and… Communist!

But…in the end… April 30, 1974 = The Fall of Saigon North Vietnam invades and takes over Operation Frequent Wind: UN tires to rescue S.V civilians So today Vietnam is reunited and… Communist!
