1 Warm Up Monday, August 25 Welcome to the seventh grade! To do:
Look at the sheet posted at the front of the room and find your name. Look at the number next to your name. This is your desk number. Find that in the room and place your belongings there. Grab one of each of the two sheets of notes on the desk by the door.

2 Warm Up Tuesday, August 26 Find your seat and place your belongings under your desk. Hand in student locator card and handbook agreement sheet to bin. (core 1) On a sheet of notebook paper, answer the following questions: What was the most fun/interesting thing you did this summer? What do you think you will learn in Social Studies this year? What do you need to put on everything you hand in to Mr. Davenport (Hint: check yesterday’s notes)

3 Warm Up Wednesday, August 27
Answer the following questions: What information can you find on the side-board? What items (notes, papers, etc.) should you have in your notebook? Get out a sheet of notebook paper and number it 1-20.

4 Warm Up Thursday, August 28
On the sheet of paper you used for warm-ups yesterday, answer the following questions. (Either write the question or answer in complete sentences). What type of learning style do you have? What things help you learn based on your style? What happens if you get caught with food or gum in my class? Where on Earth would you most like to visit that you’ve never been to?

5 Warm Up Friday, August 29 Use your notes from yesterday to answer the following questions: What kinds of unifying characteristics tie regions together? What do human characteristics consist of? If I tell you that my house is down the road from WMS, what kind of directions am I giving you?

Welcome back! I hope you had a great Labor Day, and complete all of these on your fancy new warm-up sheets. What makes a primary document a primary document? What kind of secondary documents do we read often? (hint, multiple answers) What is the longest distance you can run in a competition? Warm-Up Tuesday, September 2

7 Wednesday September 3rd
Answer the following questions on your warm-up sheets: What were the three big things (G’s) that made explorers want to find a short route to Asia? What kind of ship made it possible for them to get there? Who controlled the land routes between Europe and Asia, making it expensive?

8 Thursday, September 4th Tomorrow is a half-day. Enjoy.
Use your answers from yesterday to answer the following questions: What did the Spaniards usually think of the American Indians they encountered? What did the Spaniards give to the Aztecs that they didn’t like? (See document/question 6)

9 Friday, September 5th YOU HAVE A HALF DAY TODAY: BE HAPPY!
Also, please answer these questions. Name something you’ve learned from the news recently (CNN Student news or otherwise). Which explorer from yesterday was also a pirate? Which two “explorers” from yesterday didn’t really explore anything?

10 Monday, September 8th Hand your homework into the bin for your core.
Answer these questions: Which explorers circumnavigated (went all the way around) the world? Which explorer(s) conquered a whole country?

11 Tuesday, September 9th Read the selection at the top of the slide and answer the following questions: 1. According to mercantilism, how does a country get to be powerful? 2. What is one example of what England did to get more gold? 3. Do you think America today follows the theory of mercantilism? Why/why not?

12 Wednesday, September 10th
Place your homework in the appropriate bin. Answer this question: I had a turkey, pepperoni (a pork product), and cheese sandwich last night with wheat bread, tomatoes, and avocado on it. Which of these items would be considered “new world” and which would be “old world”?

13 Thursday, September 11th What do you think about the following quote, what does it mean to you: “That is the difference we make in the world. 15 Monday, September 15 On your way in the door, pick up the two sheets on the stool at the front of the room. These are your project guidelines and questions. Make sure you have written down the following in your warm-ups and on your questions. Kyledavenportteaching.weebly.com

16 Tuesday, September 16 Have your research questions out on your desk. We will be using these in class. If you have colored pencils in your locker, go retrieve them. Do not ask me about going. Answer the following: What did your explorer (from yesterday) accomplish? What interesting facts about them did you find?

17 Wednesday, September 17 Quietly answer the following question on your own. What rights do you have as an American? What do you know about how the government decides what laws you have to follow?

18 On your warm-up sheet write, “put together project”
Thursday, September 18 Have your projects out on your desk. If you have not stapled your project together, wait until after we have started our activities for the day. You need to have: A rubric with your name on it. Your completed question sheet for research. Your “Instagram” sheet with all parts fulfilled. If you did not record the websites you used to obtain your answers, write those down on a blank sheet of paper now (should only include those listed on the rubric). On your warm-up sheet write, “put together project”

19 Friday, September 19 If you have not handed in your project, put it in the bin now. REMINDER: Amnesty day is Monday. Check on Powerschools to see what you owe me. Answer these questions: What jobs did Zheng He perform for the Chinese Emperor? What things did he bring back to China?
