7 What Are Short Simple Sentences ?
Simple sentences - are defined as having a subject and a verb consisting of one independent causes Independent Clause - a group of words that contains a subject and verb and expresses a complete thought. Ex: Jim studied in the library for his chemistry quiz Simple sentence may have a compound subject maybe even a compound verb or even a modifier and may be an object or compliment, but in the end it is still one independent clause Short example; “There is a problem though. But the chances of those are miniscule.” Long example: “The s and phone messages addressed to my former self come from a distance race of people with exotic concerns and far too much time on their hands. “

8 Fragments A sentence fragments - are incomplete sentence that readers understand to be incomplete but they really aren't. Dependent Clause - a group of words that contains a subject and verb but does not express a complete thought, a dependent clause cannot be a sentence. Ex: When Jim Studied in the library for his chemistry quiz… (The thought is incomplete, what happened when he studied?) some fragments are missing a subject and sometimes a verb or both other fragments include those subjects and verbs but are dependent clauses.

9 Sentence fragment examples
“Would it be better for the kids if the mother stayed at home?” No offence, but no. This fragment has neither a subject or a verb if we added a subject or verb to make it a complete sentence, it might read like this: “Wouldn't it be better for the kids if the mother stayed at home?” No offense, but no it would not be better. “Hurry, I urge my country. Before it’s too late.” This is an example of a freestanding dependent clause. “Hurry, I urge my country, before it’s too late.” The second version is how it would sound like if it was a completed sentence.

10 Effects of Simple Sentences and Sentence Fragments
It could be used to create a contrast between simple sentences and long sentences. It could also be used to summarize what the writer has said. Even as a transition between paragraphs It is important to note that the use of short simple sentences and sentence fragments should be used infrequently and intentionally because an overuse will cause emphasis to be lost and ruins the usage of the rhetorical technique

11 Practice problems She opened the door and let us into her home, Not realizing at the time that we would never enter that door in her home again. As Christmas grows near, I find myself looking back into my childhood days at fun-filled times of snowball fights, the idea of this makes me happy.

12 More practice problems
Making up his mind quickly. Jim ordered two dozen red roses for his wife, Hoping she would accept his apology. Although it only attained a speed of about twelve miles an hour, My old rowboat with its three-horsepower motor seemed like a high-speed job to me.

13 Still more practice problems fam
With my brother standing by my side, I reached for the pot handle, Tilting the pot way too much caused the boiling water to spill. The small, one-story houses are all the same size and style, With no difference except the color.
