line Refers to an elongated mark that connects two or more points. Line encloses and divides space, creating shapes and forms. Seam lines divide and enclose space on a garment.

Structural Vs. Decorative
Structural – lines required to maintain the structure of the garment; for example, seams Decorative – lines created by the designer purely for decoration; for example, a printed-on design Decorative

Types of Lines Straight Lines – Curved Lines – Vertical Horizontal
Increases emphasizes and reinforces body lines and angles. Vertical Horizontal Diagonal Curved Lines – Holds attention longer Increases, emphasizes, and reinforces rounded soft body curves

Space The entire area within a garment – may be broken up by pockets, buttons, seams, trim, etc.

Texture The way the surface of a fabric looks and feels.
