2 About This Course Introductory course focused on integrating educational technology into teaching. ED 297 Educational Media and Technology is an introduction to theories, application of principles, acquisition of practical skills of educational media relevant to teaching/learning situations. This is an online course, therefore, you will be expected to have the skills necessary to be a successful online learner. A friendly reminder that online courses typically take just as much or more time than an equivalent face-to-face course. The course activities will consist of textbook and online readings, research writing and reflection, individual and collaborative team projects and mediated instruction. Interaction will be achieved through online meetings, multimedia, electronic mail and online discussions. Assignments will be transmitted to the instructor via the Laulima Assignment tool. Please see the course syllabus in the Syllabus tool for more details about the course.

3 Scenario: Your Role New teacher at Ala Ike school
Assigned to schools 21st century teaching committee. Interact with Ala Ike school characters Ex. Principal Akano and staff teachers In our course you will take on the role of a newly hired teacher at Ala Ike school, a fictional school with the goal of becoming a leader in 21st century teaching for 21st century students. The principal of Ala Ike school has placed you on a school wide committee tasked with integrating education technology into the Ala Ike school curriculum. The committee is comprised of other new teachers, with the idea being that new teachers bring new ideas. Over the course of the semester you will meet frequently online with your committee members.

4 Typical week Scenario Homeroom Bulletin Message
Each week you will go to the Modules tool and select a week to see the topic for that week. Each week will contain the following components: Scenario, Homeroom, Bulletin and Messages. Lets take a look at each of these components in more detail.

5 Typical week Scenario Each week begins with a brief 2-3 minute scenario audio recording involving the teacher characters at Ala I'ke school. The scenario is role played by student volunteers for bonus points. The scenarios introduce topic from a teachers perspective. (Related to: forum posts)

6 Typical week Homeroom (Don't be late for homeroom) Check in at homeroom for a narrated introduction to the topic this week and hear our learning objective for the week. (Related to: title, introduction, objective)

7 Typical week Bulletin Weekly Bulletin (Read your school bulletin carefully) Take a moment to read over the weekly bulletin. The weekly bulletin includes information and links to important activities and graded assignments! (Related to: activities, assignments)

8 Typical week Message Principal Akano will have a message for your summarizing your week and include preview for upcoming topics. (Related to: summary, next steps)

9 Main Projects Tech Integrated Culturally-based lesson
Selecting Web 2.0 Tech & Blog Reflection Ed.Tech. Overview & Blog Reflection Final Presentation & Blog Reflection Group project In addition to the weekly activities and assessments there are four main projects that you should be aware of. The main projects span over multiple weeks. I advise you to do work on the assignments a little at a time and do not wait until the week they are due to start on them.
