2 Home Sales Hold Steady in October
The EDGE Information and news that gives you an edge in the real estate business Home Sales Hold Steady in October HAR released October 2016 MLS statistics this last week, and here are some highlights of the monthly report in case you missed it: Home sales across greater Houston were statistically unchanged year-over-year in October, with a total of 5,916 single-family units sold versus 5,893 in October 2015. The single-family home median price rose 6.3 percent to an October high of $218,000 while the average price increased 2.2 percent to $277,904 – also an October high. Months of inventory grew to a 3.8-months supply compared to a 3.5-months supply in October Housing inventory nationally stands at a 4.5-months supply, according to NAR. Rentals of single-family homes declined one percent year-over-year, and the cost of renting those homes increased slightly to $1,728. The EDGE Information and news that gives you an edge in the real estate business Houston Market Movements It is unclear how the election of the first business person with no prior political experience and a heavy background in real estate as the nation's next president might influence the U.S. housing market. In the hours and days following the election, financial markets were extremely volatile due to the uncertainty. However, it doesn't seem like demand among aspiring home buyers will be shrinking anytime soon. In the Houston region, for the week ending November 6: • New Listings increased 6.7% to 2,280 • Pending Sales increased 21.5% to 1,667 • Closed Sales increased 45.3% to 1,524
