2 Your Stressors Think about the sources of stress in your life…
Personal Academic Career How do you respond when you feel stressed out? -Personal: Relationships/family, loneliness/isolation, sexual orientation/identity, sadness/anxiety. -Academic: Grades, concentration, test anxiety, time management, study skills, procrastination, etc… -Work/school/social balance? -Self-care! -Picking a path for success, career exploration, imposter syndrome. -Stress is a normal part of being a college student! -But sometimes stress can become overwhelming at times and we have difficulties managing it.

3 Self-Care What is self-care?
“Activities done with the intention of enhancing energy, restoring health, and reducing stress.” Improves stress management, facilitates resiliency, and reduces mental health symptoms. Challenges?

Physical Relational Work/Study Spiritual But, sometimes self-care isn’t always enough to help us thrive.

Promoting student learning, success, and retention through culturally competent psychological counseling, career exploration, and testing services. Regionally and nationally accredited counseling center and training site with a diverse staff of psychologists active in scholarship and professional organizations.

6 How can we help? Learn about yourself (values, interests, goals).
Explore the world of work (salaries, requirements, job realities). Obtain perspective on making a difficult decision (narrow choices, find the best fit). Learn stress management skills.

7 What can we do? Listen and understand. Assess your situation.
Help you learn about yourself and your plans for the future. Teach relaxation strategies. Identify strengths & weaknesses. Connect you to additional campus resources.

Common presenting concerns include: Academic stress Career difficulties Relationship problems Depression, anxiety Counseling helps people become better students and stay in school and graduate. -The transition from undergrad to graduate school can be a stressful time! -Research tells us that engagement in counseling is correlated with

Free personal counseling, academic counseling, career counseling, and biofeedback. All services are confidential. Groups, workshops, online resources. Low cost testing services (e.g., learning disorders, ADHD). 8 psychologists, 3 full-time doctoral interns, and 4 part-time doctoral-level practicum students. -Individual counseling. -Groups: Supersize your relationships, Anxiety Management, Feel Better Fast. -Biofeedback: Measures of physiological responses to help gain control of and reduce anxiety. -Testing: Under $200, compared to potentially thousands in the community. Testing results can be sent to the Office of Accessibility for potential
