As mentioned previously, this is because i-Ready Diagnostic and Instruction was built from the Common Core State Standards. We cover all of the foundational domains, and we look at comprehension of –CLICK- informational text separately from literature. Under each domain are the sub-skills. Remember that i-Ready will show you which of these sub-skills each student needs most work on. In Reading Comprehension, multiple genres are covered and you’ll notice a greater focus on a close reading of rigorous text. The order and number of domains presented in the Reading diagnostic is dependent upon the student’s grade for the first question, and then upon performance for the rest of the test. You can see the grade level difficulty of questions next to each domain name. For grade levels 9-12, students will be assessed in Vocabulary and Comprehension of Information Text and Comprehension of Literature. If they are performing at a grade level of 8 or below, they will be assessed in additional domains. For many states the program will also generate a correlation report so that you can see how your students are performing on the correlated state standards. Let’s look at math. If needed – review the notes below: The 9-12 Diagnostic Indicators in Reading and Math have been correlated to the CCSS, TX, and VA state standards: Customized Versions of CCSS: CCSS+15% States: AL, AZ, GA, MA, NY, and MN (MN is Reading-Only) CCSS Verbatim States: CT, DE, KY NC, UT (as of 9/1/12)

Domains in blue are only tested at those grade levels **if** the student’s performance in the prior domain is low enough. If needed, test flow is provided below: Grades K and 1 – Students receive every domain, starting with phonological awareness Grades 2 and 3 – Students get served Phonics first. If they score high enough in Phonics they test out of Phonological Awareness, but are still served up HFW, Vocab, Comp Literary and Comp Informational. Grade 4 – Students get served Phonics first. If they score high enough in Phonics they test out of Phonological Awareness and HFW. They will only receive Reading Comprehension (literature and informational text) and vocab items Grades 5-8 – Students get served Vocab and Reading Comp (Literature and Informational Text) items first. If they score too low, they will receive Phonics. If they score low with Phonics items, they receive HFW items as well. Grades 9-12 – Students get served Vocab and Reading Comp (Literature and Information Text). If they score too low, they will receive Phonics. If they score low with Phonics items, they receive HFW as well.
