POD: What are the 7 S’s? WotD: Investigation

3 Unit Objectives Students participating in this mock trial will understand the importance of interaction and coordination of people working successfully together within the justice system. Students will be able to research, organize, and present information, facts, and other data related to the crime and trial arising out of a simulated criminal homicide.

4 Day 1 1. Observe crime scene (no one enters).
2. Fill out crime scene report (case study summary) a. ID all possible evidence to test and how you would test it b. Write out what you think happen c. Choose your suspect and why? d. Sketch the crime scene

POD: What pieces of evidence did you see yesterday in the crime scene? WotD: Prosecution

7 Day 2 1. Finish Rough Sketch and summary 2. Create a detailed sketch

8 Exit Ticket & Homework Exit Ticket: What is the main piece of evidence that tells us that Candy is most likely dead? Homework: On an Index Card list the evidence you want collected on one side and the photos you want taken on the other side. Put your name on the index card.

10 Day 3 1. Assign jobs (still no one enters) (Except Photographer and Videographer) 2. Observe the scene 3. On Loose Leaf: a. Write up a short report about, what you will analyze and how you will analyze it. i. Crime Scene ii. From the suspect b. List all things you want the photographer to the photograph 4. Film/Photograph the scene

POD: Why would we only want a minimum amount of students entering the crime scene? WotD: Deliberation

13 Day 4 1. Photographer must photograph everything before it is removed
2. The Crime Scene Analyst will collect the evidence 3. Evidence will be handed to the specific experts 4. Cop will collect samples from the suspect (Shoe, lifting hair DNA, fingerprints, Alibi) 5. Photographer will photograph the collection process, the cop collection, the testing’s 6. Filming: Film the collection process, Film the cop collection, Film the testing’s 7. Experts: review all notes from their specific unit, determine what labs they will be completing, record a list of all supplies that will be needed.

16 Days 5 - 8 1. Arrest the suspect (cop)
a. Photographer and Videographer should be taking evidence of the suspect being arrested b. Suspect should ask for a lawyer 2. Each expert will complete ALL test needed. You are graded on how detailed your results are. Do ALL possible tests for analysis. 3. When you finish your tests, write a rough copy of your expert testimony. This must be approved by me. 4. Final Expert Testimony a. is due by 4/20/16 in the Shared folder. b. Pictures MUST be included. c. Share with AND

19 Day 1. Meeting rooms will be 204 and 113. Check the list later for your location 2. Meeting will occur during 5th period or after school. 3. If you do not meet with your lawyer during 5th period, then you MUST meet with them after school

21 Post Case Work Day Post Lab Choose 1
Summarize whole case typed (1 page) Write a newspaper article on the case and outcome (1 page/ includes picture(s)) Do a colored detailed sketch of the crime scene with all evidence numbered and ID on bank (to scale) Edit the film (Videographers) Create a photo book (on Snapfish) (Photographers) Write up interview question and interview someone from the case (typed/ 1 page)
