8 Murderer- David Motive: Mann has been using David for most of his life. Since high school David has been a ‘Milhouse’ to Mann; he’s gotten into trouble for him, he’s done bad stuff for him, he’s even been to prison for him. Two years ago David loaned him a large sum of money after winning it at the races, on the basis that he would return it, as David also needs that money. However, Mann never did, always saying that he will when he has a steady job but doesn’t seem to actually be concerned about finding one. The night of the murder, David had returned to Mann’s house to collect his water bottle and saw that Mann was there, a little drunk. They began talking and David once again asked for his money back. This caused an argument to occur between them and Mann finally revealed how little David meant to him. A scuffle broke out between them and David just snapped, grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Mann to death.

9 The Psychology link This was a spontaneous, spur of the moment act. The crime scene will show the impulsive nature of the attack (chairs all over, tables knocked down, the body was still at the scene). David left school with no qualifications. If he does get work then it’s unskilled. He’s had a couple of relationships but they’ve failed. Using the top-down approach, all of the above suggests that David is a disorganised offender.

10 Clues to be left behind MKS to be reading a book on autopsies - this hopefully should trigger a previous lesson about rigor mortis *Knife (to be hidden)- but this will be a red herring- one full print was found- Heather’s, and one partial print, David’s. Both will give reasons why their print was on the murder weapon when interviewed. *Thermostat to be set to 20 degrees (changes the temp of the room, temperature can alter rigor mortis which can affect the the TOD estimation) Broken watch to be set to 5:48am (in evidence bag or left on floor)- David altered the time on the watch and broke it. David’s green water bottle should be left on the desk.
