1 CSI: Lake Shore Halloween Edition

2 CSI: Lake Shore Police received a 911 call on Friday, October 31st at 1:32 am regarding a possible homicide at Lake Shore High School. Call came from one of the night janitors. When officers arrived at the scene they found the victim, Ms. Wallis, lying on her front in the Media Center, holding a copy of Poe’s Raven. The coroner pronounced her time of death (TOD) at 12:00 midnight. Evidence was collected: the book, blood spatter, fingerprints and hair and fibers found at the scene. There were no witnesses at this late hour. 3 Suspects are based on conversations regarding the Vics lifestyle.

10 STATIONS Station A: Sketching Crime Scene - Include anything that could be evidence in your drawing Station B: Chromatography- The Raven was inscribed with “You owe me”. Figure out what type of marker made this inscription and who it belonged to.

11 Stations Station C:Microscopes - Check out the hair of the victim, 3 suspects and the unknown hair found at the crime scene. Compare and solve! We also found some fibers at the scene and a extra clue! Station D: Fingerprints -Compare the fingerprints of the Vic, suspects and a fingerprint found at the scene!

14 Directions Begin forensic analysis at your teacher’s station. You will move clockwise around the media center. 3 students can work on a packet. You will turn in your forensic packet for credit before you leave!

15 Results STATION A: Blood Spatter
Cause of death (COD) is sharp force trauma to jugular vein in the neck. Spatter labeled A shows vertical drips from 90 degree angle- murderer walking away with weapon. Spatter labeled B under head shows the fatal wound. Blood pooled under the head. Observations- There are drips leading away from the body. The weapon was not yet recovered, did anyone find it?

16 Results Station B: Chromatography
The inscription in the book was matched to a Promarx marker. This same type of marker is found near Ms. Kleymeer’s desk in the library.

17 Results Station C: Microscopes The unknown fiber found on the Vic's body belonged to Ms. Kleymeer The pet hairs found a the scene belonged to Ms. Czopek. Lice was found at the scene, belonging to Mr. Mumbrue’s kids!

18 Results Station D: Fingerprinting
A Pepsi can was retrieved at the crime scene with an unknown fingerprint. When you compared it to the Vics and suspects, it was Ms. Wallis’ fingerprint and Ms. Kleymeer’s fingerprint!

19 CASE Closed The fingerprint evidence, chromatography evidence, and fiber evidence all indicated that Ms. Kleymeer was on the scene. When brought in for questioning, she broke down. When asked why she did it, she cried “It’s for the books! Everyone deserves a chance to read a book. Turn it in ON TIME!!”
