 On the day of her 20 th birthday Jessica Waldon was found dead in her apartment. Jessica’s roommate Bridget Rudley discovered the body and contacted authorities. The Victim

 The autopsy by a medical examiner shows that a blow to the head was what killed Jessica. Her roommate Bridget was at her boyfriends house all night and has no information to help investigators.

 Jessica had no criminal record and had never been in any trouble. She had only little family in the city because she had moved to attend college. She also worked part time in an office complex where she had just been promoted.

 Jessica was a college student in her sophomore year at the University of Pittsburgh. She was majoring in business and moved to the city from a small town in Wyoming. Jessica had gone out the night she was killed to clubs with some friends to celebrate her birthday.

The Detective  David Brofsky a private investigator begins working on the case because Jessica is his niece. Although he is kind natured, he tends to get angry with suspects. David tends to obsess over cases and does not stop until they are solved. Catch Phrase: For every crime, there is a punishment.

Evidence  Many pieces of evidence from the scene were found in Jessica's apartment including:  Paperwork that a fellow co- worker had filled out.  Fibers and hair around the house does not match Jessica’s.  A shirt with motor oil stains on it, and pictures of Jessica with a another man found in the pocket.

Doug Walley  Motive  Jessica had recently been promoted to a position that Doug thought he deserved and had been working hard for.  Opportunity  Doug could easily find Jessica's address in files at work and wait for her to return home.

Doug Wally  Clues  The papers that were found at Jessica's house belonged to Doug.  In a note Doug had written to Jessica shortly after her promotion he had threatened her.  Doug has been known for his anger problems, and had been recently charged with a domestic dispute with his ex- wife.

Brandon Ericson  Motive  Brandon has been friends with Jessica since her freshman year in college, but they recently got in an argument and were no longer talking.  Opportunity  Neighbors saw Brandon arrive at Jessica's house that night before she retuned home.

Brandon Ericson  Clues  Brandon knows her apartment very well and could easily sneak in.  Brandon made many verbal threats to her during the argument.  The hair and fiber samples found around the apartment matched Brandon's.

John Carter  Motive  John is a mechanic at the shop where Jessica takes her care and they had a relationship at one time. Since then he has been obsessed with her and will not leave her alone.  Opportunity  John knows where Jessica lives and has showed up unannounced many times before.

John Carter  Clues  The pictures found in the shirt pocket are of John and Jessica.  The shirt found at the apartment with motor oil stain on it belongs to John.  A recent restraining order filed on John by Jessica has left him very angry and more obsessed than ever.

Summary  Doug Walley  Very angry at Jessica for getting a promotion he thought he deserved.  His work papers were found at Jessica's house.  Talked to many people about how he would stop at nothing to get her position.  Brandon Ericson  Involved in a recent argument with Jessica.  Fibers and hair samples from him were found around Jessica’s house.  Told many of his friends she was a failure and her life was a waste.  John Carter  Still has strong feeling for Jessica despite their break-up and angry about the restraining order.  His shirt and pictures of him with Jessica were found in her apartment.  He had been drinking that night and told the bartender he was going to propose to her.

Denouncement  Who did it?  John Carter  How?  After leaving the bar he went to Jessica's apartment to propose to her. After Jessica refused, he was irate and hit her which killed her.  Lingering clues  Doug's papers were at Jessica's house because she was making corrections to them for a financial report.  Doug was with his children the night Jessica was killed.  Brandon's fibers were found in Jessica’s apartment because he was there often.  Brandon arrived at Jessica’s apartment to give her flowers and apologize for the fight, but after no one answered the door, he returned to his house and left the flowers behind.
