2. Registration Information
Please make sure to turn your entire folder in to Ms. Sharon.
If you forgot your folder or any of the information, the office is open from 7:30 – 3:00 until June 7.

3. School Day First Day of School – August 9, 2018
School Start Time – 7:15 a.m.
Students are marked tardy if they are not sitting in their homeroom class at 7:20 a.m.
School Dismissal – 2:40 p.m.
Breakfast – 6:50 a.m. to 7:15 a.m.
Middle School Lunch – 11:03 a.m. to 11:33 a.m.

4. Attendance Student attendance laws are determined by the state.
Maximum Unexcused Absences:
Middle School – 10 days
Please turn in all attendance notes to Ms. Debbie in the front office within 5 days of returning to school.
Parents can also with attendance documentation.
Only 3 parent notes are accepted per semester.
Absences of 3 or more days must be accompanied with a doctor’s note in order to be excused.
Phone calls to the office are not necessary.

5. Uniforms All shirts must have the official Haynes Academy logo.
Any color athletic shoe is allowed, but socks must be black, white, or gray.
Knee-length uniform shorts are allowed during the 1st and 4th nine weeks.
Skirts must be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee.
Only Haynes Academy sweatshirts/sweaters are allowed inside the building.
Students may wear a plain black, white, or gray jacket inside the building as long as the jacket remains unzipped while inside and the jacket bears no emblem or insignia.
ID must be worn at all times.

6. Backpacks All backpacks must be mesh or clear vinyl.
Rolling backpacks are allowed, but they must be clear vinyl.
Sports bags must be dropped off in the locker room before school.
Purses must be small (less than eight inches on each side).
Lunch kits must be appropriate size.
All bags are subject to search at any time.

7. Carpool
All students that are not bus riders, walkers, or drivers should be dropped off and picked up using carpool.
Walkers and drivers must be registered with the front office.
Morning carpool – 6:50 am to 7:20 am
Afternoon carpool – 2:50 pm to 3:10 pm
Parents are not allowed to park on Magnolia or Cottam between Magnolia and Sycamore to pick up their child.
All cars must approach the school on Magnolia from Metairie Road to enter the lot and turn right out of the parking lot to exit the lot.

13. How do I see my child’s grades?
Each parent has access to the Student Progress Center, which can be accessed from jpschools.org.
Accounts roll over from elementary.
Students who are new to JPPSS will receive a letter in August with instructions on how to set up their account.

14. How often should I check my child’s grades?
It is recommended that you check the student progress center at least once per week. The student progress center will also display attendance information, major discipline information, as well as any communications from the school made using the JCampus system.

15. What if my child is late to school?
Students who are late to school should enter the campus through the Metairie Road entrance to sign in. Parents do not have to sign in their child. Any tardy that is documented with a doctor or parent note will be considered unexcused. As a reminder, only three parent notes for tardies/absences will be accepted per semester.

16. How do I know what’s going on in my child’s class?
Each teacher posts assignments each day on his or her wiki which is can be accessed through the Haynes Academy website. Please reference these wikis often. Please also reach out to your child’s teacher via with any concerns.

17. My child always says he/she has no homework. Is this true?
Probably not. Most teachers give homework 3 – 5 days per week, including weekends. Most homework assignments should take between minutes to complete per class. Check the wikis for additional homework information.
Students can use advisory time to start homework.
All students should study notes daily.

18. What should I do if my child is spending more than two hours per night on homework?
Contact your child’s teacher if it seems like one particular subject to express your concern about the difficulty your child is having.
If it seems like your child is having trouble completing all homework, please contact Christina Johnson, Dean of Students.
Encourage your child to take advantage of tutorials during advisory time.

19. How does my child make up work?
Encourage your child to communicate with teacher upon return.

20. What do I do if my child forgot something?
Evaluate the situation…emergency or non-emergency

We will not call your child to the office, but they can pick it up in the office.
We cannot deliver messages to your child or ask them to call you.
Fast food/restaurant lunches will not be accepted at the front counter.

21. Can I eat lunch with my child?
Absolutely, but they may not want you to. This is a personal decision between you and your child. Any parent who wants to eat lunch with their child must sign in the front office and is limited to the cafeteria.

22. What are the steps for resolving a concern?
Class problem – Always contact the teacher first. If you are not happy with the response, then please contact an administrator.
