2 Key Points C or better grades required in all 15 college prep courses in order to be admitted to all CSU and UC campuses If a “D” is earned in an “a - g” course, students must remediate that grade in summer school or during the school year SAT or ACT required for both systems SAT II exams can help enhance your application to more competitive universities AP Exams can also help enhance your application Coursework in 7th & 8th grade can be used to satisfy “c” and “e” requirements

3 “a”: History / Social Science 2 years of History / Social Science (must include 1 year of US History or 1 semester US History and 1 semester of American Government) CSU System: 1 year History / Social Science from either the EDHS approved “a” or “g” subject area UC System: 1 year of World History, Cultures and Geography from the EDHS approved “a” subject area

4 “b”: English 4 years of college prep English Composition / Literature
No more than 1 year of Advanced ESL / ELD

5 “c”: Mathematics 3 years of mathematics
Must include Algebra I & II and Geometry 4 years recommended

6 “d” Laboratory Science Two years required
CSU System: One year of Physical Science One Year of Biological Science One must be from the “d” subject area, the other can be from “d” or “g” UC System: Must include 2 of the 3 foundational subjects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics Both courses must be from the “d” area 3 years recommended

7 “e”: Language Other Than English
2 years (or the equivalent to the 2nd level high school course) Must be the same language American Sign Language accepted 3 years recommended for UC

8 “f”: Visual and Performing Arts
1 year selected from dance, music, theatre / drama and visual arts

9 “g”: College Prep Elective
1 year elective chosen from the EDHS approved a - g list in any area Some Career Technical Education courses are approved for fulfillment of a – g subject requirements (ex. Introduction to Criminal Justice)

10 Validation There are some instances where Universities make exceptions
Every situation is different and this must be discussed with your counselor

11 Calculating Your G.P.A. Calculate GPA using all “a-g” approved courses completed during the summer after the 9th grade through summer after the 11th grade Exclude deficient grades which have been repeated

12 Honors Points A maximum of 8 extra grade points from four year-long courses may be awarded for UC approved honors, AP and IB courses. No more than 2 year-long courses completed in 10th grade can be used in honors points calculations.
