1 Drupal Basics Part 1 An Overview Login Information Edit the Homepage Using the theme Agricultural Communications Services Integrated Media Training Sessions www.ca.uky.edu/agcomm/

2 The initial set-up of the Drupal site: Ag Communications Services hosts the Content Management System (Drupal) on the College server. The College has an official theme set up for your sites design. It will have the official header with the blue banner and black tab navigation and footer. The structure of the site allows for some flexibility in the design for your specific content. 3 Open up your Firefox browser* and enter the URL in the address box & search. Login Information for your site *Firefox is the preferred browser to use for editing Drupal sites. 4 This is a screenshot of the example homepage design. Go to User login Enter your unique username: and Password: Your Drupal Site: Login Information slide 3

5 The edit tab allows you to edit this page. The view tab allows you to view the edits. Click on the edit tab Your New Drupal Site: View and Edit tabs slide 4

6 This is what the entire edit page looks like. Here are the details: Title Type the title you want at the top of the page. Right now its Welcome Menu Settings The settings are already set for you, so no need to go through this part of the training yet. Your Drupal Site: Login Information slide 5

7 Body This is the main editing section of the page. The toolbar has the same user friendly formatting options as Microsoft Word. Click inside on some of the type and look at the toolbar. Notice the options you have to style the type. More on formatting type later. Your New Drupal Site: Edit a Page slide 6

8 Input format Full HTML. This is the default setting. Revision information Note area for you to follow revisions URL path settings You can control the name of the url for a page. The naming should be descriptive yet short with no special characters or spaces. Your homepage already has this done. Preview Option to view edits before you save SAVE You must click on the save button when you make edits to the page. Delete Delete page completely Your New Drupal Site: Edit a Page slide 7

9 You have the choice to Preview the edits before saving, or choose Save. Notice that when in editing mode, the editing looks slightly different from the finished page.
