2 The Secession Convention
It was 1861 when Texans met together in favor of leaving the Union and Seceded.

3 Natural resources of Texas
No Gold Here! Texas had many natural resources. Texas had Oil, Natural Gas and Shellfish and although many initially came to Texas in search of this, Texas did not have Gold.

4 The Texas Bill of Rights
The Texas Bill of rights provides everybody equality under law based upon every status other than economic Status. According to article one section two Texans may alter the government So long as The Government maintains a representative democracy.

5 The Dust Bowl The dust Bowl affected economic development in Texas because Many farms were lost to banks.

6 Galveston storm of 1900 O man! This storm did so much! Main Thing it did was alter the economic development of Texas because most major industries were moved down into Houston to protect from future storms.

7 West Texas The development of ranching in west Texas was primarily a result of a lack of water resources.

8 Civil War No were not talking about Captain America, we are talking about the Civil War. Demand always increases for an Oil exporting country in a time of war. Let’s talk about Agriculture in Texas after the Civil War. It became more dependent on Sharecropping. Cotton production decreased during the war however afterwards sprung up again. Almost every industry was affected when it ended. In fact the cattle industry became huge in Texas. The Civil War had brought a Taste for Beef to the eastern states while feeding soldiers and so as a result after the war, The demand for beef in the east brought rapid growth to the industry. Let’s keep talking about the Civil War, maybe after the Civil War. The Buffalo Soldiers sprung up after the Civil war, This was the first African American Regiment The issue of States Rights contributed to the outbreak of the Civil War because Seceding states did not believe that the federal government should intervene in the state decisions. One of those major decisions being Slavery.

9 Lyndon B. Johnson Elected president in 1963
Supported Civil Rights Legislation Launched a great society anti poverty program.

10 Hector p. Garcia & The freedom of speech
Hector was a key fighter in the Hispanic Civil Rights Movement, World War Two had the strongest influence on Hector B Garcia in his fight for Hispanic Civil Rights. The Civil Rights Movement in Texas was most helped by the Constitutional Guarantee of Freedom of Speech.

11 World War 2 During the War Texas moved towards industrialization as the large expanse of open flat land made way for munitions factories. After the war these War time industries Led to Texas becoming a more industrial society.

12 The Texas & Federal Constitution
The Judicial Branch of both state an national governments are the Judges (Judicial=Judges) they decided if laws are unconstitutional. It is in this way that they check the powers of the legislature.

13 Interest Groups Citizens participate on in their states political system by Serving on Juries. Interests groups do so much, but at the end of the day they try to influence policy decisions.

14 Houston & the space program
Houston grew immensely as a result of the Apollo programs that ultimately landed a man on the moon.

18 Let’s talk about the press!
Newspapers! Why is the free press important to Texas Citizens? Because people need to be able to make informed decisions.

19 Let’s look at some big names
Raul A. Gonzalez, Jr. He was the first Hispanic appointed to statewide office in Texas. Raymond L. Telles He was the First Mexican American Mayor of El Paso in 1957.
