What is Parliament? Imposed heavy taxes Had an intolerant religious policy What was England's official religion? Charles attacked Parliament in 1642 Charles fled and raised an army

10 Restoration After Cromwell’s death, Parliament asked Charles II to become king – this period is called Restoration Habeas Corpus – “to have body” Every prisoner had the right to be brought in front of a judge to specify the charges Why is this important today? Thus, a monarch could not throw someone in jail for no reason
