1 Classroom Procedures and Expectations

2 Classroom Behavior Results
You all helped create and sign a social contract. When you break a contract, what happens? Lets review your social contract. Results Seat change (or others in the event of a distraction) Phone call home Lunch detention Parent/Teacher conference Referral

3 Classroom Behavior Results Seat change
I may move students even if they have not “done anything.” This is not a punishment, it is simply to help students stay on track. Phone call home I have and can call a parent in the middle of class. Generally speaking, I call during lunch or after school. Lunch detention After school detentions are 1 hour long. Lunch is ½ an hour. So how many lunch detentions will you serve in the event you earn it? I LOVE LUNCH DETENTIONS!! If you enjoy listening to Yodeling, Opera, or Indian music as you eat your lunch, sitting up straight, and not talking, let me know! Parent/Teacher conference If the above 3 options have been used but you are still struggling, I will contact your parent(s)/guardians for conference. The 3 (or more) of us will meet and come up with a agreement. Referral At this point, I have done my part. If you are unable to meet the expectations of the classroom, I will have to issue you a referral.

4 Conflicts with Classmates
If you are having problems with a classmate, in or outside of class, you need to let me or Mr. Williams know ASAP. Bullying is NOT a one time incident. Bullying is when it happens more than once. Remember, we all have bad days. You may be on the receiving end or giving someone a hard time because you: were late for school, got yelled at by a parent, didn’t eat, forgot homework, etc.

5 Entering the Classroom
You should be coming in respectfully and sit down to begin your DO NOW! Turn in work into your bin if I ask you to when you walk into class If you were absent, you should be checking the bin (shown) for work Look on the board for the days agenda Look on the board for the Learning Target TARDIES When can I receive a detention? After your 4th Tardy YOU earn the tardy, YOU earn the detention.

6 Daily Agenda I will be posting your daily schedule on the board.
DO NOWS will be daily and are different depending on the class Once you receive your DO NOW! You are expected to be working on it Check the board for your daily agenda Check the whiteboard for your Learning Target There is NO EXCUSE for not completing your DO NOW. Once the timer goes off, or I ask to complete your work, you are DONE and we move on.

7 If you finish ANY assignment early…
Ask to pass back work Get a word puzzle or math puzzle from me Work on another class assignment Clean up the classroom

8 Supplies & Coming Prepared
It is up to YOU to bring your supplies everyday. This includes: Pencils (Notice the plural, meaning more than 1) A 3-Subject notebook or 3 separate Notebooks Pens (Again, plural. You should have a blue or black and red pen.) Books: I will be assigning textbooks for each class. ELA STUDENTS: Take your assigned book HOME. A class set will be available in the classroom. (Yay, no dragging a heavy book back and forth!!) If you would like a pencil… I TRADE! I particularly love cell phones and house keys….  You will get your trade item back once I receive the pencil. Ask a neighbor to borrow a pencil or pen

9 Cell Phones Cell Phones must be on silent or turned off
If I see it or hear it… I give you a warning and will ask you to put it away/turn it off If I see it again, I take it for the hour If it becomes a habit, I will turn it into the office (Mr. Williams) Referral if it continues Your education is more important then sending a snap to your friends

10 Food Water bottles are allowed, unless students are not taking care of their bottles, flipping them, or trying to dump them on students (yes this has happened) If I provide the occasional treat as a reward, wrappers go in the trash Birthday treats must be approved by me

11 Teacher’s Desk & Phone “Ms. Dishman’s Room, student speaking.”
There is no reason anyone should be taking things off of my desk unless I give you permission. Imagine if I went through your purse, book bag, or even your locker without your permission and took things without asking. Would you be okay with it? It is off limits to all students. Phone Calls: There may be moments I am across the room or doing hall duty. I may ask you to answer the phone. Please pick up the phone and say: “Ms. Dishman’s Room, student speaking.”

12 When the Teacher is Teaching…
We do not talk or have side conversations. We are focused and ready to work. We respect the teacher who is here to help guide you to a better future. Remember, you will not be in school forever, make it count!

13 How Should I…..? Ask a question? Raise your hand! Have a comment or something to say? Need help?

14 Using the Bathroom When should you use the bathroom?
During passing time. If you MUST use the bathroom, do not ask for the first 10 minutes of class, and the last 10 minutes of class Why? It is disruptive and you miss out on instruction time. I do not like repeating myself more than necessary

15 Turning in Homework 2nd TURN IN GRADED Homework is placed into the bin that looks like this one I may ask you to keep your work with you to grade as a class I may ask you to turn in your work as soon as you walk into class ALL homework that is on time goes into the bin that is designated for your class hour The bottom drawer color is for homework that is graded and needs to be returned to you Students who finish their DO NOW early may be asked to pass back work or can volunteer 3rd 4th 5th 6th

16 Absences Ask me at the beginning of the hour what work you may have missed, or the classroom secretary (more info in a moment) I have 5 bins labeled (see bins) that any work completed will be put in Work is due equal to the days you missed (1 Absence = 1 Day I will not hunt down students to turn in their work

17 Absent Work Secretary In order to help out the classroom, I will need someone to record the work assigned for students who were absent. Secretary must be… Reliable Consistent Detailed

18 Late Work LATE WORK is 10% off each day it is late.
Life happens, and occasionally something comes up that prevents you from completing your work. LATE WORK is 10% off each day it is late. Example: If you would have received a 100% on an assignment but was 1 day late, the highest you can receive is a 90% Do not forget if your work was turned in late and incomplete, you will not only receive a late penalty, but an incomplete one as well If a student is not turning in their work or consistently late, I will make a phone call home. Parent/Teacher conference may also be requested by myself or your parent

19 Absent/LATE WORK TURN IN
There is a bin designated for ABSENT work as well as LATE work SEE BINS DO NOT put in absent work or late work into the homework bin.

20 Cheating If you are caught cheating on a test or exam, you will receive a ZERO and a phone call home If you copy/cheat by using someone else’s homework assignment, I will split the grade in half and you will share it EXAMPLE: Sarah and Jenna turned in their homework but it was clearly copied. Sarah and Jenna would have received 100% for it, but because one of them copied (and the other allowed them) the grade is split in half and they both will receive 50%.

21 Classroom Discussions
Be respectful: To other opinions When someone is talking Keep side conversations off Raise your hand Follow all teacher directions
