3 The university’s vision
The vision is to become a university with full academic rights. A university with full academic rights is a marker for educational quality, degree-awarding powers for third-cycle programmes, and it increases our opportunities to attract students and employees. Students and their learning Increase the share of research Complete academic environments Our vision is clear. The University of Borås will become a university with full academic rights. This will benefit us as well as the whole region in terms of social development. Western Sweden needs a third university with full academic rights. It is a national concern. Being a university with full academic rights is more than just a name. It is a marker for educational quality, degree- awarding powers for third-cycle programmes, and it increases our opportunities to attract students and employees. A future university status also provides us with better financial conditions to further develop and profile our activities. One starting point in order to realise our vision is to place the students and their learning at the centre. We will develop a learning environment based on current research. Our educational programmes will be linked to research at all levels, and our students will be actively involved in research as early as possible. We are developing and establishing complete academic environments. We will offer educational programmes on all levels: from first to third-cycle studies. Our objective is to establish third-cycle programmes and well-functioning networks with other educational institutions and organisations in all our areas. hb.se

4 In central borås City campus – a place to meet
The entire campus is located around Akademiplatsen, in the middle of the city Few universities can boast a single city-centre campus. Students, teachers, researchers, and businesses from various fields and industries come together around Akademiplatsen, where cafés and restaurants can be found alongside our lecture theatres and library. Right on campus is the Textile Fashion Center, located on an industrial estate that has been home to textile production for over a century. The building has been renovated to feature a modern, industrial style that is adapted to the textile industry of the future. Our city campus not only serves as a place to meet, but also as the beating heart of the city that invigorates our students and the city’s residents. At the moment the new congress centre of Borås is under construction next to campus. In the Textile Fashion Center you find The Swedish School of Textiles at the University of Borås, the Textile Museum, the Market Place networking venue, Proteko and Science Park Borås. hb.se

15 A symbol of who we are The sheep shears are a symbol of the town and our textile history. The laurel wreath represents our academic affiliation. The colours gold and black are the colours of Västergötland. Through our choice of symbol, our intention is to demonstrate our connection with our region’s history and character. This official text describing our heraldic symbol is called a blazon. In more everyday language, the pedlar – or travelling salesman – has existed in our region since the Middle Ages and was of both economic and social benefit to the area. hb.se
