Awaiting the new NMC Education standards, Napier early implementer
Interviewing candidates for 2018, numbers applying good but reduced this year. Numbers increased by 10%, not all areas informed of actual numbers.
Issues between student numbers and placement areas
Adult places being used for 1 placement in stage 1
Hub and spoke difficult due to lack of placement areas; RGU being reviewed by GCU

Scotland have a guaranteed 1 year post on qualification – may be anywhere in Scotland not necessarily in the area of training
SAAS, bursary awarding body in Scotland reviewing bursary however, Scottish Government have stated the bursary will not go.
UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative re infant feeding
Accreditation across Midwifery, now being implemented in NNU and HV, soon to be rolled into CYP.
Mental Health
ASIST delivered in stage 3 to CYP students in RGU
Free training provided by Scottish Government until March 2019

Scotland has a national Ongoing Assessment Record (OAR) used by all Universities and fields. Implemented now for the last 3 years.
Learning Disability share placements across Scotland; Inverness and Highlands shared placement areas.
Currently using a hub and spoke model. Issues with CYP in relation to number of placements required to support this model. RGU currently being reviewed by GCU.
New Edinburgh Children’s Hospital due to open autumn This has been delayed.
New Glasgow Children’s Hospital has been opened for last 2-3 years.
Royal Alexandra Hospital Children’s ward has been closed impacting on placement availability.
Ward 2, Dr. Gray’s Hospital in Elgin has been downgraded to an out patient facility from an in patient ward. CYP being transferred to Aberdeen for hospitalisation. Again impacts on placement availability

Age can be up to 25 depending on CYP situation e.g. full time education, looked after, health
RGU have worked in collaboration with a local high school
Pupils aged 12-15
Involved in field and generic skills through all 3 stages
Involved in stage 2 generic public health module
Involved in interviewing of candidates applying for CYP nursing
RGU are looking for an external examiner for CYP
