5 Summer to do’s Continue researching colleges- get a feel for what works for you (large, small, public, and private) Enrich yourself by volunteering, internship, work, or special learning programs, summer school Narrow college choices In-Person visits when possible/Summer opportunities at colleges Resume/Personal Statement Search for on-line scholarships Schedule Senior Portrait with Lou Coopey's All Pro Studio. If you do not have your free headshot taken by Labor Day, we cannot guarantee your senior photo will be in the yearbook.

7 Advanced Placement (AP) Dual Credit
Recognized throughout the nation Credit through CGCC Prepare for a single test in May Transferable to in-state schools Scores of 3, 4, 5 may award credit Grade determines credit Rigorous curriculum Rigorous curriculum $95 per test $ community college rates

8 Dual Credit Why take dual credit?
Dual credit courses may be applied toward college degree. High school credit + college credit. Cost is based on community college rate per credit hour- not university. Dual credit courses are taught by our teachers who have their community college certificate for Arizona. Credits are transferrable to in state universities. Some out of state colleges may accept dual credit from the MCCD as well, please check with the individual colleges. One more perk… high school teachers are more accessible than college professors so take advantage of this amazing opportunity!

Class of 2017 and beyond GPA will be calculated based on the 22 credits required for graduation (44 grades) No grades lower than a C Must have taken a minimum of 12 credits at WFHS

Review credits with your counselor Narrow your list of colleges (Get application and financial aid information from each) Pay attention to due dates/deadlines Write application essays- have someone read first drafts Ask for recommendations (if required and provide enough time ) Take/Retake ACT/SAT if appropriate Take SAT II Subject Tests if appropriate Continue Scholarship search online & at BHS Get Financial Aid Information/CSS Profile/FAFSA Avoid the Senior Slump! Look for Graduation info- senior portrait, cap/gown, etc. Pay all debts and fines

17 Apply Early/ Apply Right
The college application includes: Application Test Scores Transcript Essay (if required) Fill out applications Apply for orientations /housing Utilize Common Application/Universal College Application when applicable Submit by deadlines- earlier is better (research your particular college(s) for specific requirements and timeline) Keep copies of everything you send

19 Financial Aid FAFSA- (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
APPLY EARLY * (online) - now Prior Year – October of Senior Year Applying early increases your chances for grants and other sorts of financial aid. Remember- Some schools won’t consider you for merit scholarships until you’ve submitted a FAFSA, so complete one even if you think you won’t qualify for federal aid Find out the priority filing date for the college or universities you are applying to Must renew application every year fafsa.ed.gov

20 Academic Eligibility There are different academic requirements for each division of college DI or DII level you must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center If you want to compete at the NAIA level you now have to register with the NAIA Eligibility Center NCAA and DIII do not require registration

21 NCAA Clearinghouse How and when do I register for the NCAA Clearinghouse?
Students should have completed this during the end of their Junior year- do it now if you did not then. Go to NCAA Eligibility Center Register- follow prompts Send your ACT/SAT Scores using the code Send your transcripts to the clearinghouse at the end of your junior year and your final transcripts at the end of your Senior year. There is a fee to register Contact with any questions

22 NAIA Clearinghouse How and when do I register for the NAIA Clearinghouse?
Register anytime during your Senior year at playnaia.org You’ll create a profile and fill out a personal profile Send your transcripts to the clearinghouse Send your ACT/SAT Scores to the clearinghouse using the code There is a fee to register Fee Waivers are available

23 Start Your College Search/Plan
Start with you: think about your abilities, preferences, and personal qualities. Read about majors and careers (visit Mrs. Buscema in the Career Center) Research Colleges: (visit Mrs. Buscema in the Career Center) STR-(Safe, Target, Reach) Community Colleges Certificate Programs Technical School Apprenticeships Military Academies (this process begins now! ) Start thinking about Financial Aid Keep your grades up! Plan summer activities early- volunteer, work, internship, summer enrichment opportunities, summer school

24 Scholarships 101 Merit vs. Non-Merit Based Where to look:
-WFHS Career Center ( access online- under “Scholarship” and “Scholarship Listings”) -Scholarship websites -College websites -Employer Websites -Give COPIES OF ALL OFFERS TO THE Career Center Create/Update Resume Think about personal statement/college essays (if appropriate) Keep your Grades Up!! A’s and B’s and above average test scores.

SAT SAT Subject Tests (as req. by college, additional opportunity to showcase achievement in specific subject areas- specific majors or programs) ACT/ACT + Writing component Sign up online- act.org (ACT) collegeboard.org (SAT) **Send scores to prospective colleges, NCAA, certain scholarships (4 free)**

27 The Waiting Game… Wait for admission decisions
Choose your college – May 1st National Decision Day Plan for budgeting needs, housing, sign up for orientations, etc… Continue to search for scholarships Look for financial aid information Mary Buscema in the Career Center should be your best friend by now

28 Wrapping it all up! Take AP Exams Complete all Senior courses
Final transcript request (NCAA, NAIA too) Final transcript from CC (dual credit) Prepare for Graduation! Check the Graduation website page often
